• Question: What does it take to be an engineer?

      You’ve got to love to solve problems. I mean really love it. You don’t have to be good at it, you just need to love doing it. If you enjoy doing it, the skills will come and you will be amazed at how good you can get.

      You have to be patient and love solving puzzles. You have to be curious and enjoy the fixing things. You probably also need to like having a plan and follow the plan.

      Interest! An interest in how things work, and how they might work better…

      To me, nothing is more satisfying than understanding how something works, and then making it work better…

      The will to do it I think.

      An engineering career can look like one of a hundred different jobs, in a hundred different industries. What we all have in common is curiosity, the ability to see things from a different angle, and a love of problem solving. It gets said a lot, but problem solving is the foundation of engineering.
